Term One has been a busy time in Rooms 6 and 7 and after a couple of weeks of ‘getting to know you activities’, all classes have had lessons in the performing arts of music, dance or drama. Junior primary students have looked at rhythm and beat and at the musical concepts of Tempo (fast and slow) Dynamics (loud and soft) and Form (the way music is organized). They have played a range of percussion instruments (including pots, pans and cups!) and have learned songs, speech rhymes and dances.
Middle primary classes have looked at basic notation and have worked in groups to create their own 4 beat patterns which they recorded with pop sticks and then played on instruments.
The middle and upper primary students have had a focus on drama. Earlier in the term, they explored the idea of how a cheer squad would have helped Hercules perform his tasks! Using scarves and objects found in the music room, groups performed some very interesting presentations of the labours of Hercules. Students have also worked with partners and small groups to create short skits using set lines that had to be included in their script. We have some very creative and imaginative students here at CLG!
Over the past week, we have been working with the Australian National Curriculum for dance and we have been looking at the elements of dance, working with others to create movement sequences.
Looks like loads of fun!
